Futuristic gaming headset
Ranked by look
See-through panels over screws and circuit-board shapes, with one red accent. It looks like lab gear. Plugs into the monitor jack with a 3.5 mm cable (KEF, who tuned it, lists one in the box).
Downside: Not built as a gaming headset, so there's no boom mic. That's fine, because the DJI records your voice. Also comes in black.
Made to match the PS5: the same white halo shape, and the mic slides away into the ear cup. Anyone sees PS5 at a glance, for half the price of the Nothing.
Downside: Wireless only, no cable. Fine while the PS5 records the game, but with a capture card the PS5 sends game sound to the headset instead of the capture (the kit list rule). When it's connected, the PS5 hears you through its mic, so keep that unmuted and make a 1-minute test recording first. It's Sony's standard PS5 headset, so it looks less special than the others.
White and gold with a lit triangle on each ear cup, and Kojima Productions' astronaut logo (the Death Stranding studio) on one side. Plugs into the monitor jack (3.5 mm wired).
Downside: Has to ship. The boom mic detaches, so take it off for a cleaner face cam.
Black with glowing red triangles, the most gamer look here. Plugs into the monitor jack (3.5 mm wired). The boom mic detaches.
Downside: Pre-order. The ear cups carry a game's branding (Phantom Blade Zero), so it reads as merch.
Same shape as the Nothing (1) with bright yellow ear cups, $150 less. Plugs into the monitor jack (Nothing confirms 3.5 mm wired).
Downside: Less of the see-through detail that makes the (1) look futuristic. If the box has no 3.5 mm cable, grab one at the till. Also in white, black and pink.
Looked at, didn't make it
- Logitech Astro A50 X (red, $549.99): loud and flashy, but its base station sits in the HDMI line between the PS5 and the monitor.
- ASUS ROG Kithara ($369.99): the open frame looks great, but it's open-back: game sound leaks out and into your clip mic.
- Razer Kraken V4 Pro ($549.99): RGB everywhere, but Best Buy lists it for PC, and its control box adds desk clutter.
